How to Achieve Excellence and Become the Entrepreneur You Want to Be
The Method That Changed My Life
Hello!!! I hope you're full of energy today, because we're going to dive together into a theme that thrills me, and I think you do too. Welcome to this new edition of SoloBOOST News, this space that we are building hand in hand, with ever more heart and value. Lately, I have worked hard to make the content of my News more inspiring, more solid, and while thinking about it, I realized a key point: excellence.
I know that a part of you has already had this desire to give the best for yourself, for others, for your Company, to be the best version of yourself, to be the reference in your field. To be unique. To be Excellent.
So, today, we are going to explore together how to “REACH” excellence.
You have worked hard to become the Solopreneur that you are today. And you feel deep within you that you want more than what you have and what you currently are.
In a word: you want to become excellent. You want to achieve excellence. You want to embody this excellence. However, there is a barrier: you don't dare.
Yes, there is a difference between: wanting excellence and daring to excel.
Excellence, what exactly is it?
Let's be clear: excellence is not perfection. Being excellent does not mean achieving “Perfection” (which does not exist). Being excellent means maximizing your potential in a field that suits you, such as coaching, training, real estate business...
It is a state where your skills, your passions and your efforts align to produce remarkable results, recognized by yourself and potentially by others. Excellence is also a continuous quest, not a fixed destination: it involves regularly surpassing yourself, learning from your mistakes and aiming for ever deeper mastery.
Carol Dweck, renowned psychologist, talks about the “growth mindset”. His research shows that those who succeed in excelling do not run away from failure, they integrate it as an engine for evolution. They transform every difficulty into learning.
Aristotle said: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is therefore not an act, but a habit. »
And in this quest for excellence, there is what we call the “Zone of Excellence”.
What is the zone of excellence?
The zone of excellence is located between your zone of competence (what you do easily) and your zone of genius (what you are naturally gifted and passionate about).
This is the space where you exploit your strengths and acquired skills at a high level, but without necessarily being in a state of total “flow” like in the genius zone. Basically, this is where you perform very well thanks to your work and your discipline.
In my case, my area of excellence is my ability to combine my talent for coaching with my skills in technology. Often, I do quick and precise coaching and I use tools that help me go much faster like Artificial Intelligence.
How did I learn that this was my zone of excellence?
It was through training, self-coaching, and above all thanks to my clients and those close to me. Their feedback, their visible transformations opened my eyes.
Once, I was in a group session with around fifty people. I coached just one person live, and by asking well-targeted questions, I saw the whole room react with: “oh yes, me too!” » in the chat, chain awareness. At the end, a participant said to me: “Yann, you unlocked in 20 minutes what I had been thinking about for years. »That’s when I understood that coaching and my technology skills are my area of excellence.
What makes us not dare to be excellent?
There are several possible psychological reasons for this blockage, and they often depend on internal and unconscious factors:
Fear of failure or success: Paradoxically, wanting to be excellent can be accompanied by an underlying fear. The fear of not being up to par (failure) or, on the contrary, of succeeding and having to take on new responsibilities or expectations (success) can paralyze you. These fears are often rooted in what is called imposter syndrome or low self-esteem.
Conflict between desire and identity: If you see yourself as “average” or have internalized an image of yourself that does not correspond to excellence, your subconscious may resist change. Moving to the next level requires rewriting that identity, which can be uncomfortable.
Comfort zone: Even if you want to progress, staying in a familiar zone is reassuring. Daring to be excellent involves taking risks, getting out of that zone and facing uncertainty, which the human brain naturally avoids (it's a question of survival inherited from our evolution).
Lack of clarity or strategy: Wanting to move to the next level is a noble intention, but without a precise vision of what this means for you or without concrete steps, you risk remaining in a state of procrastination or of inaction.
What makes us not know what we are good at? (Zone of excellence)
Lack of exploration: Sometimes, staying in the same circles, without testing new areas or shaking up your habits, hides your zone of excellence. It's like having a talent for painting or problem solving, but never picking up a paintbrush or facing a challenge, so you don't discover it.
Lack of feedback: Sometimes you're already great at something, but you don't see it, because no one tells you or you ignore the cues. For example, your friends tell you that you explain things really well, or you succeed in tasks without effort, but if you don't listen to these signals (compliments, easy victories) it goes under your radar.
Disconnection from self: The outside world can cover your tracks. The expectations of others, social pressure or "you have to do it this way" drown out that little voice that tells you what makes you tick.
Lack of personal benchmarks: Excellence is not necessarily winning medals or impressing everyone; for some, it means being patient, for others, innovating. Without your own compass – not that of others – you don't know where to look to see your strengths.
How can you achieve excellence and become this entrepreneur that you are rebuilding?
Excellence is hidden in the nuance, which means that we need to encourage progression, to find pleasure in the fact of progressing, in personal surpassing, because it is these progressions, these surpassing that little by little small, we become excellent.
Daring excellence means daring to introspect on yourself. This is why we need SELF MASTERY and GRIT to achieve “Excellence”.
1. THE GRIT
Grit is the alliance between perseverance and passion. It is not a question of simple persistence, but of an ability to maintain this sustained effort despite the absence of immediate gratification. Grit allows you to stay committed to your ambition without being distracted by occasional failures or phases of doubt.
In 2007, Angela Duckworth followed more than 1,200 cadets at the West Point Military Academy, during their ultra-tough initial training, called "Beast Barracks". The goal was to understand who managed to stick it out until the end, beyond natural talents like intelligence or physical fitness.
She measured Grit with a questionnaire on perseverance and passion for distant goals. Result ? Cadets with a higherGritscorewere much more likely to stick it out and complete training, even when taking into account their intelligence or physical fitness. Concretely, those who were a little more "gritty" (tenacious) had around 50% more chance of succeeding, compared to those who were less so.
This study shows that excellence here is not just based on raw talent, but on this ability to not give up, to stay focused on your objective. Why is GRIT a powerful tool for striving for excellence?
It promotes your adaptation to obstacles without calling into question your final objective: to dare/become excellent.
progress.
Build an evolving commitment: adjust your goals without losing your overall vision.
Cultivate your mental endurance: understand that excellence is a process and not a sprint.
Psychologically, Grit helps overcome moments when you want to give up. Your brain, faced with fatigue or doubt, looks for excuses to stop. But with Grit, you find this energy that comes from your passion and your determination, not just from your basic skills.
The more you train him to persevere, the closer you get to excellence, step by step.2. SELF-MASTERY
Self-mastery is not simply about self-control, but about directing your energy with intention and intelligence. It is what allows you not to be governed by fleeting emotions or impulses that could harm your commitment to excellence.
In the Journal of Positive Psychology, in 2021, Luthans and his team studied Psychological Capital. They followed 540 employees to understand what makes them “great” at work. They saw that those who manage their thoughts well and keep their goals in sight, without letting themselves get drowned, perform better. The strongest in Self-Mastery, let's say the top 25%, exceed the others by 20% in productivity. For what ? They remain calm, transform problems into solutions and know where they are going.
Basically, these high-performance employees know how to manage their thoughts, their emotions and stay focused on their objectives.
Why is Self-mastery essential in your quest for excellence?
It allows you to keep an alignment between your ambitions and your daily actions.
It develops psychological autonomy which avoids dispersion.
It helps you act with consistency and discipline, even when motivation fluctuates.
How to strengthen your Self-mastery?
Develop increased self-awareness: identify the patterns that limit you.
Establish structuring routines: create habits that support your ambitions.
Practice active introspection: adjust your decisions based on your values and not external pressures.
GRIT and SELF-MASTERY: A balance to go further
GRIT without self-mastery can lead to blind relentlessness, while self-mastery without GRIT can create sterile thinking without taking action.
Excellence is based on a balance between these two dynamics: intelligent perseverance and self-control that guides this perseverance in the right direction. You already have talent, a successful business, and the desire to go further. What separates you from excellence is not skills, but mindset and action. It’s a contract with yourself. Entrepreneurship is not just about running a business, it starts with inner transformation.
Dare to be excellent. Become so excellent that you won't have to doubt what you do, because you have confidence in what you know how to do.
In my Program “The Morning Voice”, we will explore step by step, every day, how to configure your Mindset, to Dare. Not only, dare to excel, but also, and above all, dare to become the Entrepreneur you want to be, the Entrepreneur you want to become.
